Great River County, Pyeonganbukdo,Korean Peninsula

  • 高麗 上將軍 以純忠懿郞 封 泰川伯 食邑 泰川, 錄 公於 輿地勝覽 人物誌

  • Ryeo was the father of the Hwangju Byun Clan (황주변씨 시조 黃州 邊氏 始祖) in Goryeo (Hwangju Byun, the progenitor of the Hwangju Byun Clan), and was born in Longxi or Nongseo County(농서군 隴西郡) in the Song Dynasty. After the fall of the North Song Dynasty, Ryeo migrated from the North Song (북송, 北宋) to Goryeo. Goryeo King Gojong  (고종, 高宗1213~1259) gave Ryeo the title of Goryeo Sangjanggun  (currently Major General 상장군, 上將軍) and gave the land of Taechon County(Great River, 태천泰川) as a reward to those who made contributions to the country and Sunchunguirang (title name). And the King received a land called Taecheon as ‘Tenant-in-chief’(Sikeup식읍, 食邑) as a reward from Ryeo. Sikeup is land given as a reward to people who have contributed to the country. Ryeo got profit or tax from the land.  Hwangju Byun, 1st generation descendant (Taechon County, North Pyongan Province), Ryeo was recorded in an old geography magazine. Ryeo, written in the Korean (呂): it means spine or is very important to the bearer of this name. Ryeo’s spouse was from the Kim Clan. Ryeo’s spouse died in 1266. The next three Figures show the location of Taechon County, which Ryeo received as a tenant-in-chief, and Longxi or Nongseo County, Ryeo's hometown, and the map of the Song Dynasty. The Song Dynasty (Monarch Country) of Mizhung (11th century ~ 286BC) and the Song Dynasty of Ryeo (960 ~ 1279) are different countries.
